About the practice

Who we are

You are being asked to trust a website with your corporation’s statutory reporting. Here is exactly who we are, what we are registered to do, and how you can check both without taking our word for it.

The firm

This site is run by Vital Money Pty Ltd (ABN 54 668 172 718), from Maylands, South Australia. We work with corporations across Australia, including remote communities — most of this work is done by video and cloud accounting.

Vital Money and Vital Consult are two arms of the same practice: Vital Consult is the CFO and advisory arm and Vital Money is the registered tax agent arm. When your corporation engages us for reporting and for board support, that is one firm, not two. You can see the wider practice at vitalconsult.com.au.

The people

Compliance guidance written by nobody in particular is not worth relying on. Every guide on this site carries a named author. The credentials below are held with the professional bodies named, and you can confirm them directly with those bodies.

Our experience with Indigenous corporations

To be completed — CONTENT-CHECKLIST §2

This section describes the sectors we work in, the rough scale of corporations we work with, and the kinds of engagement we take on. It is the strongest trust signal on the site and it has to come from the partners — it cannot be written from anything published elsewhere.

It will never name a corporation or an ICN: client work is confidential, and examples on this site are de-identified by construction.

Accountant or auditor — never both

We do both kinds of work, and never for the same corporation. An accountant cannot give an independent opinion on their own work; independence is required under subdivision 339-D of the CATSI Act. So each corporation gets one role from us, and the choice is yours.

If we are your accountant, we prepare the financial report and work alongside whoever you appoint to audit it — including handling their queries, which is usually where boards lose the most time.

If we are your auditor, we audit corporations we do not otherwise act for, and only below the $5 million tier. Large corporations, and any corporation with income of $5 million or more, need a registered company auditor or an authorised audit company. We are neither, and we will tell you so rather than take the work.

Our relationship to ORIC

None, and we want to be straightforward about that, because the name of this website invites the question.

ORIC — the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations — is the Commonwealth regulator. It maintains the register, receives the reports, and takes compliance action. We are an independent accounting firm that corporations engage to prepare those reports. We are not approved, endorsed, appointed or accredited by ORIC or the Commonwealth, and nothing on this site should be read as suggesting otherwise. If you want the Registrar’s own guidance, it is at oric.gov.au — we link to it throughout, because on the law itself it is the source and we are not.
